Doug Herbert is going after a Land Speed Record.
The Project
The LSR Project.
Doug Herbert has signaled that he is going after a Land Speed Record. Herbert is founder and co-owner of the LSR Project. He grew up in California and began racing in 1986.
He made his first start on the IHRA circuit in 1991 and quickly racked up 20 event wins as well as four IHRA Top Fuel Championships. Since 1991, Herbert, who is also an accomplished pilot, has competed in the NHRA, where he was the first driver to run the 1/4 mile in the 4.80's and the second driver in history to break the 300 mph mark.
The driver has amassed 10 career NHRA victories and has finished in the top 10 of the NHRA year-end point standings every year for the past decade.
Herbert founded a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization called B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) in honor of his two sons, Jon, 17, and James, 12, who were killed in a tragic car accident in January of 2008. By training and educating teenage drivers and their parents, the foundation aims to promote safe driving in an attempt to prevent injuries and save lives.
